Anesthetic

My son's getting his tonsils out this Friday. The thought of him going under general anesthetic freaks me out every time it comes to mind. It's the same anxiety as with my daughter when she had her adenoids out. I know it's a common procedure, but still.

  1. I remember those feelings. Totally normal (unless I'm abnormal...). I tried to remind myself that it's just another day at the office for the doctor.

Or maybe he wakes up with super powers. You can always hope...

  2. Fingers crossed! Have a phone available to capture the hilarity of your kid coming out from under.

  3. Paul Beakley Oh man, no thanks. My daughter was a total mess, wailing and snot and spit, it was bad.

  6. My kiddo had his congenital hernia fixed when he was not yet a year and a half old. He was great. He went around the whole ward of people awaiting surgeries in his little gown and hospital socks being very charming. Lots of other medical stuff was scarier to me than that surgery. The time he was a year old and sick to the point of dehydration and we had to take him to the ER and they gave him IV fluids. That was scary. The awful facial swelling from an allergic reaction to something while we were trapped on a plane from Texas when he was three and rushing to the closest ER right from the airport when we landed was scary. His recent appendicitis scare was rough. Carrying him four hundred yards up and down a sled hill and through the woods wailing with a broken leg was rough. The scheduled surgery was less nerve-wracking than these other things. Though maybe only because I haven't over researched the risks of general anesthetic.

  7. Paul Czege funnily enough, the last time it was researching general anesthesia that kind of put me at ease. Some of the first results were all about how rare problems are.
